Dr. Carrie Shorey is a neuroepidemiologist whose research focuses on cognitive aging and dementia risk. Her work examines the roles of psychosocial stress, chronic disease, and biological mechanisms in brain health, drawing on large longitudinal cohorts, biomarker-informed studies, and clinic-based research. She has a particular interest in sex differences in dementia risk and advancing health equity across diverse populations.
Before pursuing her academic career, Carrie worked as an Elder Life Specialist and later as a Research Coordinator in geriatric and critical care hospital settings. These experiences continue to shape her commitment to translating research into clinically meaningful and community-relevant applications that improve the prevention and care of cognitive disorders.
Carrie earned her PhD in Public Health Sciences from the University of Waterloo, Canada, and her MSc in Human Development and Family Studies from Purdue University, United States.
